Bio

Hello everyone, I am Jmena, an architect originally from Lima, Peru. In 2003 I came to Germany to study architecture at the Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar. I live in Münster, Germany and worked as an architect in project management for more than eight years until I started the Fab Academy at Fab Lab Bottrop, which is part of the Hochschule Ruhr West. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Michael Schäfer, Fab Lab Bottrop offers an extremely well-equipped lab with an interdisciplinary and friendly team that successfully supports me during the Fab Academy.

Since 2015, I have been following the Fab Lab movement and developed a concept with Konrad Schneidenbach to establish the Fab Lab in Münster. The Fab Lab Münster is integrated in the association münsterLAND.digital. As a digital innovation center, the association supports startups and companies in the implementation of digital business models, technologies, hardware prototypes and offers the community a place and events to network.

Privately and professionally, I am interested in the interface between design and new approaches to technology. How is design influenced by technology and, in turn, how do innovative design challenge technology. This interaction is particularly intriguing because it is not linear. Over time, we can observe which processes or procedures become accepted as new standards.

I like to explore different fields such as digital fabrication in architecture & interior design, digital art as well as product design. The Fab Academy complements my curiosity and also gives me different perspectives. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to take Fab Academy and recommend it to everyone. It is an awesome experience surrounded by enthusiastic optimistic people!
