LURLAB mobile is a fablab initiative by LURLAB that brings the creative opportunities and technological resources of a modern maker-space directly to rural and periurban communities. Commencing operations in January 2023, this mobile project has redefined the possibilities for community engagement and educational outreach in the Basque region.
Equipped with an array of digital fabrication technology, including 3D printers, CNC milling machines, and laser cutters, the LURLAB mobile unit functions as a mobile workshop, offering hands-on experiences in creative making and design.
Unlike a traditional fablab that is fixed in one location, LURLAB mobile has the flexibility to visit different communities, making it an ideal solution to address the urban-rural divide in technological access. It operates on a schedule, spending a few days per month in selected locations where it offers a variety of workshops and activities on a regular basis.
These interactive sessions are designed to inspire and educate, fostering technological literacy and encouraging creative thinking in a fun and engaging way. With its strong commitment to sustainability and local heritage, many workshops also focus on using biomaterials or recycled plastics.
