riidl FabLab – Empowering Innovation Through Digital Fabrication

riidl FabLab, housed within riidl Somaiya Vidyavihar, is a cutting-edge digital fabrication and prototyping facility designed to support students, makers, innovators, and startups in transforming their ideas into reality. Established as part of riidl (Research Innovation Incubation Design Laboratory Foundation), a nationally recognized business incubator, the FabLab plays a crucial role in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning on the Somaiya Vidyavihar campus and beyond.

Equipped with advanced 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, electronics workstations, and fabrication tools, the lab provides resources for rapid prototyping, product development, and technical experimentation. As an active Fab Academy node, riidl FabLab has been training individuals in digital fabrication, embedded systems, and mechanical-electronics integration for the past several years. Regular rapid prototyping workshops and hands-on training sessions ensure that users gain expertise in computer-aided design (CAD), electronics fabrication, and interdisciplinary prototyping.

As a core facility supporting riidl’s incubation programs, the FabLab enables startups incubated at riidl to prototype, iterate, and develop scalable products. Through the Innovate PBL program, student innovators can receive mentorship and funding of up to ₹5 lakh to bring their projects to life. Additionally, the FabLab is open to small MSMEs and independent makers through dedicated membership plans, providing access to high-end fabrication tools and technical guidance.

riidl Somaiya Vidyavihar, recognized as a DST and DBT-BIRAC-supported business incubator, has incubated over 160 startups, facilitated the creation of 600+ jobs, and contributed to a startup ecosystem valued at over ₹1,226 Cr. The FabLab remains a key enabler in this journey, ensuring that emerging ventures and innovators have the technical infrastructure, expertise, and support to turn their ideas into market-ready solutions.
