Introduction of the FabLab@TU-Ilmenau
The FabLab@TU-Ilmenau is a pioneering initiative at the Technische Universität Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau) that establishes learning spaces for project-oriented and practical learning. The core concept is a site-specific "blended makerspace" approach, which integrates decentralized actors and resources to facilitate transparent and easy access.
Implementation and Outcomes
The implementation of this concept as the FabLab@TU-Ilmenau has been made possible through the generous support of the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education (examING project) and Ilmkubator (EXIST-Potentials project). The further development and safeguarding of the FabLab at the TU Ilmenau is secured by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. The initiative has also been driven by the enthusiasm and dedication of several students at the TU Ilmenau.
Impact on spin-offs and future skills
Feedback from teachers has consistently shown that by realizing their own or proposed projects, students develop essential skills in entrepreneurial thinking, collaboration, and exchange with others. This hands-on approach to learning has been instrumental in fostering a culture of innovation and creativity among students at the TU Ilmenau.
